Welcome to DODLODGING

We were straddled by bombs, dodged torpedoes and were attacked by suicide planes that missed. We never lost a man in combat, never surrendered to the enemy, and earned eighteen battle stars while steaming , miles without a major overhaul. John Supino, seaman first class, was assigned to a specialized damage control party whose duties were to make repairs when the ship got hit. Supino maintains that since the ship never got hit, the damage control people virtually had a pleasure cruise. World War II went out with two stupendous, thundering booms in August, The atomic bombs brought the Japanese to the peace table. On August 15 Japan gave up, and everything changed. Only a few months earlier, everyone believed that to end the war, Japan would have to be invaded at a cost of a million lives or more.

Forward to this lengthily document. I recently was lurking through the Point-Counterpoint discussion board on Fred’s Place and saw a topic with entries. Having made many weather patrols during my 27 year Coast Guard career, it piqued my interest. I read through most of it and felt that it would be good fodder for the folks that visit Jack’s Joint.

I contacted my friend Fred and requested his permission to use the material contained in the string. He sent me permission and I undertook making several revisions to it. Because the writers only were identified by their email addresses I decided to purge the names from the material as well as most references to each other. Some of the things were a bit racy and this being a family site, I either cleaned them up a bit or purged them altogether.

To those who contributed to this string, Thanks. These stories, events, attitudes and opinions should not be allowed to die. Weather Patrol that began immediately before WWII lasted well into the ‘s before the program was finally put to bed.

The ship fired at targets both in and South of the buffer zone that day, and destroyed nine bunkers and four military structures near Con Thien. The ship arrived on station off Da Nang at on the third, where she began support of the First Marine Division. LB Chris Kyle, Patriotism and Texas February 12, I just wanted to share with you all that out of a horrible tragedy we were blessed by so many people. Chris was Derek’s teammate through 10 years of training and battle. They lost many friends. Chris became the armed services number 1 sniper of all time. Not something he was happy about other than the fact that in doing so he saved a lot of American lives.

He did and wrote the book The American Sniper. That was the guy Chris was. He formed a company in Dallas to train military, police and I think firemen as far as protecting themselves in difficult situations. He also formed a foundation to work with military people suffering from PTSD. Chris was a giver not a taker. He along with a friend and neighbor, Chad Littlefield, were murdered trying to help a young man that had served 6 months in Iraq and claiming to have PTSD. Now I need to tell you about all of the blessings.

Navy, and more specifically, its enormously expensive aircraft carrier battle groups. During the exercise, a Canadian submarine slipped quietly through a carrier’s destroyer screen, and conducted a devastating simulated torpedo attack on the ship. The submarine was never detected, and when the exercise umpire, a U. Navy officer, pronounced the carrier dead, his official report was promptly stamped classified to minimize the potential fallout.

Unfortunately, a Canadian submariner leaked the story to a local newspaper, and indicated that this successful Canadian attack on an American supercarrier was by no means an isolated incident. This news caused quite a stir in Congress, and the U. Navy had a lot of explaining to do. Why indeed had a small, s-vintage diesel submarine of the under-funded Canadian Navy been able to defeat one of America s most powerful and expensive warships, and with such apparent ease?

There are several possible answers. Firstly, Canadian submariners are extremely well-trained and professional. Secondly, at that time, the Oberon submarines used by the Canadian Navy were probably the quietest in the world. A third possible reason, not so commonly stated, and with all due respect, is that the mighty U. Navy is simply over-rated. It is my humble contention that the U.

By Capt Clinton B. Used with his permission Frustration and fatigue were starting to simultaneously set in on me on 20 June We were 30 days into our third at-sea period, and the ops tempo was intense. Ten days prior we had our first loss, one of our nuggets, Carl Doughtie. The last four days we had not been especially successful.

We had to leave the downed pilot when it got dark. One road recce was nothing more than harassment. The other I scored one truck, but someone almost scored me while I was executing a life-saving pullout just short of bending the prop. I logged two nice round holes in the aft fuselage. The day began normally with the starboard catapult crashing into the water-brake outside my door acting as my alarm clock.

This dance goes on until someone makes a mistake and a lapel gets grabbed and then guard gets pulled. Mike Molina, who has penned a few blog entries for us, has pointed out that unless you are submitting your opponent from guard to the point that it is a death sentence, why pull guard.

Does it make sense to take away their opportunity to score two points and instead give them a chance to score three by eventually working past your guard. Someone once said that the ground was the biggest thing you could hit someone with. Yep just too lazy to make the effort to learn it. Shooting or throwing someone is a lot of work.

I have since rebuilt a Hardin 44 Sea Wolf with teak decks, had the same problem that you describe, stripped all teak, replaced the rotted plywood that seemed like scraps not full ply panels. Replaced the teak with new caulking, and fastenings and looked like a new boat.
